WeMind Cluster team embarked on an exhilarating journey to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, one of the most prominent events in the realm of technology and innovation.
This year’s event at the Fira Barcelona is expected to attract around 95,000 attendees, a number approaching those seen in pre-pandemic editions. The spotlight: artificial intelligence (AI), with advancements in 5G and 5.5G technology following closely behind.
What’s new in the WeMind Ecosystem?
Accompanied by some of our members, we delved into the heart of this groundbreaking exhibition to explore the latest trends, forge valuable connections, and showcase the cutting-edge initiatives shaping the future of personal autonomy. We could also be able to explore the 4YFN area, the benchmark event for the international entrepreneurial ecosystem.
As we navigated through the labyrinth of exhibition stands, some of our members proudly presented their groundbreaking solutions and visionary projects, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation:
Eurecat anticipates pioneering solutions in the field of health, such as an assistive robot that helps elderly people with daily tasks, an app that incorporates 3D immersive audio for pregnancy tracking, and a device that anticipates complications in the event of a stroke.
The UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in collaboration with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), presented ‘Aloe Vera’ their latest IA project on medical-vision language model.
Group Saltó carried out a demo starring their newest assistive robot for the management of nursing care, helping to combat loneliness in older adults.
During the pitching session at the 4YFN event Qualud showcased its most recent project: Kala, an app designed to accompany women going through menopause.
Lastly, also at the 4YFN health area, we visited our friends from Science for Change, showing their innovative methodologies applied in health research and Xarxa Tecsam, the non profit R+D+i Network.
WeMind journey through innovation
This year’s WeMind Cluster visit through the Congress was also an enriching exploration of other cutting-edge health innovations aimed at enhancing personal autonomy and promote healthy ageing.
From AI-powered healthcare assistants to wearable devices equipped with advanced monitoring capabilities, each innovation showcased a commitment to revolutionizing the way we approach healthcare. Our tour provided invaluable insights into the future of digital health, reaffirming our dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration within the WeMind community.
We could also meet and connect with other companies who presented their health tech solutions and bring them to live for our targeted group, such as the Finnish company Evondos, with a new medicine dispenser; Telefonica and their latest RV demonstrations; Inmersia, showing a new perspective on XR smart glasses; and four Dutch emerging companies:
- Whispp, a real time assistive voice technology that converts affected speech into a persons’s clear, natural voice, helping people with voice disorders due to trauma, old age or stutter.
- Audus Technologies, unveiled Knisper, a software designed to help people experiencing hearing loss, transforming voice audio on any platform or device, adapting sound to individual hearing needs without the need for a hearing aid.
- Osind Medi Tech, pioneers in revolutionizing hand rehabilitation with the HAND IN MOTION (HIM) system, addressing the challenge of limited access to rehabilitation for stroke patients
- Skinive, an AI powered dermatology app with instant access to state-of-art technology that diagnoses varying skin diseases and provides medical professionals and patients with advice on how to proceed.
AI revolution in healthcare
This 2024 Boehringer Ingelheim hosted a new session: ‘Changing Health: the AI revolution in healthcare’.
At the 4YFN Sky Stage, the event featured two roundtable discussions. The first delved into the transformation of the national healthcare system through Artificial Intelligence, examining the potential benefits and challenges of generative AI within the new EU legislative framework.
BI hosted speakers from various backgrounds, including institutional representatives from diverse organizations, along with patient associations who offered insights into how these changes are shaping their healthcare experiences and interactions with the system. The second roundtable explored the current impact of AI on healthcare, with a focus on real-world case studies illustrating enhanced patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
DHWS24: Healthy ageing
The 4YFN space also hosted the 11th edition of the Digital Health & Wellness Summit (DHWS). Longevity, chronicity, prevention and innovation emerge as main targets for the improvement of health services.
During the session ‘Leveraging Technology for Quality of Life’, speakers shared their insights on innovative solutions and visionary approaches aimed at enhancing the quality of life as we age:
- The emphasis has shifted towards innovation rather than technology
- Efforts are increasingly directed towards healthcare rather than wellness: a rethink is imperative
- We must prioritize prevention to reduce hospital visits
As we bid farewell to the MWC and reflect on its unlimited possibilities, we are more energized than ever to continue our journey of exploration and discovery.
Special thanks to Medicare System and Residencial Palau for coming along and experience this years’ MWC WeMind Cluster adventure!
